Eyfem Forte Ophthalmic Suspension 2.5mg Suspension

Fluorometholone is a corticosteroid (steroid) eye drop. It calms inflammation in the eye, easing redness, swelling and discomfort.

It is prescribed for inflammatory eye conditions that are not caused by an infection. It is usually used for a short time only.

Use it exactly as your doctor or eye specialist tells you.

• Wash your hands and shake the bottle well before each use.
• Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid and squeeze the drop in. Close your eye for about 30 seconds.
• Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye or anything else, and do not share your bottle.
• If you use other eye drops, leave at least 5 minutes between them.
• If you miss a dose, use it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due. Do not use a double dose.
• Do not stop early or use it longer than advised. After longer courses your doctor may reduce it gradually.

Possible side effects include:

• raised pressure inside the eye
• eye irritation, redness, itching or pain
• blurred vision
• a changed sense of taste or a rash

Longer use may lead to cataracts, glaucoma, slow healing or eye infections.

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing
• eye pain, worsening redness, discharge or any change in your vision

Do not use it if you are allergic to any ingredient or have an eye infection caused by bacteria, a virus (such as herpes) or a fungus.

Check with your doctor before using it if you:

• have glaucoma or have had raised eye pressure
• have had herpes infection of the eye
• have a damaged or thin cornea
• wear contact lenses
• are giving it to a child aged 2 or under

Store below 25°C and do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Throw it away 28 days after first opening.

Eye checks: if you use it for more than about a week, your doctor should check the pressure in your eyes regularly.

Contact lenses: take them out before using the drops and wait 15 minutes before putting them back, as the preservative can discolour soft lenses.

Driving: wait until your vision is clear before driving or using machines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using it.
