Xyzal 5mg Tablets

Levocetirizine is an antihistamine. It blocks histamine, a natural substance that causes allergy symptoms. It is used for:

• hay fever and other allergies: sneezing, runny or itchy nose, red, itchy or watery eyes
• hives (urticaria) and the itching they cause

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually once a day in the evening.

• You can take it with or without food.
• Try to take it at the same time each day.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due; then skip it. Never take two doses at once.

Common side effects include:

• sleepiness
• tiredness

Contact your doctor straight away if you have:

• a rash, hives or itching
• swelling of the face, lips or throat, or trouble breathing
• swelling of the hands, feet, ankles or lower legs

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are allergic to levocetirizine, cetirizine or any other medicine
• have kidney disease
• are pregnant or planning a pregnancy
• are breastfeeding (it is not recommended while breastfeeding)
• take any other medicines, vitamins or herbal products

Keep it in the original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Drowsiness: it can make you sleepy. Do not drive or use machinery until you know how it affects you.

Alcohol: may add to drowsiness; ask your doctor about drinking while taking it.

Stopping after long use: some people get severe itching a few days after stopping, especially after months or years of use. Talk to your doctor if this happens.
