Rennie Peppremint 680/80mg Tablets

Calcium carbonate with magnesium carbonate is an antacid used for quick relief of:

• heartburn
• indigestion
• acid reflux

Both ingredients are antacids. They work together to neutralise excess acid in the stomach, and relief usually starts within minutes.

Take it as the pack, your doctor or your pharmacist tells you.

• Suck or chew the tablets.
• It is usually taken about an hour after meals and at bedtime, with extra doses for heartburn if the leaflet allows.
• Do not take more than the maximum daily amount on the pack.
• Keep a gap of 1 to 2 hours between this and other medicines, and at least 4 hours with eltrombopag.
• Avoid taking it with large amounts of milk or dairy foods.
• Not recommended for children under 12.

Side effects are unlikely at the recommended dose.

Using high doses for a long time can raise calcium and magnesium levels in the blood, especially in people with kidney problems. Signs include feeling or being sick, constipation or diarrhoea, tiredness, muscle weakness, headache and a changed sense of taste.

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have a rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing.

Do not take it, or check with your doctor first, if you:

• have severe kidney disease, kidney stones or high calcium in your urine
• have high blood calcium or low blood phosphate
• have mild or moderate kidney problems (you may need blood tests)
• have a sugar intolerance (some brands contain sugars)
• take tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics, bisphosphonates, levothyroxine, dolutegravir, eltrombopag, digoxin, thiazide diuretics, iron, fluoride or phosphate products

Store below 25°C in the original pack, out of the sight and reach of children.

Ongoing symptoms: do not use it for more than 14 days without advice. See a doctor or pharmacist if symptoms continue.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: it can be used if taken as directed. Do not go over the maximum daily dose and avoid large amounts of milk and dairy, because of the extra calcium.
