Panadol Extra 500mg/65mg Tablets

Paracetamol with caffeine is used to ease mild to moderate pain and fever, including:

• headache and migraine
• backache, rheumatic pain and toothache
• period pain
• sore throat, aches and fever with colds and flu

Paracetamol relieves pain and lowers a high temperature. Caffeine is added because it boosts the pain-relieving effect of paracetamol.

Take it as the pack, your doctor or your pharmacist tells you.

• Do not take more than the stated dose, and leave the advised gap between doses.
• Do not take it with any other medicine that contains paracetamol, such as cold and flu remedies.
• Soluble tablets should be dissolved in water before drinking.
• It is not for children under 12.
• See a doctor if your symptoms continue or headaches become frequent.

Side effects are uncommon. Too much caffeine (including from tea, coffee and energy drinks) can cause trouble sleeping, shakiness and an uncomfortable feeling in the chest.

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• an allergic reaction: rash, itching, swelling of the face or mouth, or trouble breathing
• peeling skin, blisters or mouth ulcers
• breathing problems, especially if aspirin or ibuprofen have caused this before
• unexplained bruising or bleeding
• yellow skin or eyes, sickness, or loss of appetite and weight
• deep, fast breathing with drowsiness and vomiting

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have liver or kidney problems, or drink alcohol regularly
• have a low body weight, are malnourished, or have a severe infection
• take warfarin or another blood thinner and need painkillers every day
• take metoclopramide, domperidone, colestyramine or the antibiotic flucloxacillin
• take lithium (this combination is not recommended)
• are on a low-salt diet (soluble tablets contain sodium)

Store below 30°C, out of the sight and reach of children.

Overdose: taking too much paracetamol can cause serious liver damage that may not show for a day or more. Get medical help at once, even if you feel well.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: because of the caffeine, this product should not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Ask your pharmacist about alternatives.

Caffeine: cut down on tea, coffee and other caffeine drinks while taking it.

Alcohol: regular drinking raises the risk of liver harm; ask your doctor first.
