Lyrica 75mg Capsules

Pregabalin is a medicine that calms overactive nerves. It is used to treat:

• nerve pain (neuropathic pain), for example from diabetes, after shingles, or after a spinal cord injury
• fibromyalgia
• some types of seizures (fits), together with other epilepsy medicines
• generalised anxiety disorder

It controls symptoms but does not cure the condition. It can take a few weeks to work fully.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at about the same times each day.

• Capsules and liquid can be taken with or without food. Swallow extended-release tablets whole after an evening meal; do not cut, crush or chew them.
• Your doctor will usually start with a low dose and increase it slowly.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless your next dose is nearly due, then skip it. Never take a double dose.
• Do not stop suddenly. Your doctor will reduce the dose over at least a week to avoid problems such as poor sleep, feeling sick, headache or fits.
• Do not take more than prescribed, as it can be habit-forming.

Common side effects include:

• drowsiness, tiredness, dizziness or headache
• dry mouth, feeling sick, constipation or wind
• increased appetite and weight gain
• poor concentration, memory problems or unsteadiness
• blurred vision

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, a rash, hives or blisters
• shortness of breath, wheezing or chest pain
• blue lips or skin, confusion or extreme sleepiness
• muscle pain or weakness, especially with fever
• double or blurred vision
• thoughts of harming yourself, or new mood or behaviour changes

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have ever misused alcohol, prescription medicines or street drugs
• have heart failure, heart disease, kidney or lung disease
• have had swelling of the face, lips or throat (angioedema)
• have a bleeding problem or low platelets, or vision problems
• have diabetes (check your skin for sores)
• take opioid painkillers, sleeping tablets or other medicines that cause drowsiness
• are due to have surgery

Keep in the original tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the sight and reach of children.

Mood: a small number of people taking medicines like pregabalin have had suicidal thoughts. Tell your doctor straight away about any new low mood, anxiety, agitation or thoughts of self-harm.

Alcohol: avoid alcohol, as it increases drowsiness.

Driving: do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a baby (including if your partner is) or breastfeeding.
