Hicap Drops 2mg/1mg/10mg/1mg/10mg/0.1mg/50mg/10mcg/3mg Drops

Biotin, dexpanthenol (a form of vitamin B5) and other vitamins are combined in these drops to help children get enough vitamins.

• Vitamin D helps keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy. NHS advice is that babies and young children should have a daily vitamin D supplement.
• Vitamin C helps keep cells, skin and blood vessels healthy.
• Vitamin E supports healthy skin, eyes and the immune system.
• B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinamide, B6, biotin and pantothenic acid) help the body release energy from food and keep the nervous system and skin healthy.

Give the drops as your doctor, health visitor or pharmacist advises, using the dropper or measure supplied. Always follow the dose on the label.

• Do not give more than one vitamin supplement at a time, for example cod liver oil and vitamin drops together, as this can give too much vitamin A or D.
• Babies having more than 500 ml of infant formula a day usually should not have vitamin drops, because formula already has vitamins added. Ask your pharmacist.
• If a dose is missed, give the next one as normal. Do not double up.

At the label dose, side effects are unlikely.

Too much vitamin C can cause stomach pain, diarrhoea and wind.

Get medical help if your child has taken much more than the label dose, as too much vitamin D over time can raise calcium levels and harm bones, kidneys and the heart.

Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if your child:

• is already having another vitamin supplement or fortified formula
• has a kidney problem or a medical condition that affects calcium levels
• takes any other medicine

Store as directed on the pack, and keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Vitamin D limits: NHS advice is that babies under 1 should not have more than 25 micrograms of vitamin D a day, and children aged 1 to 10 not more than 50 micrograms a day, from all supplements together.

Diet first: drops support, but do not replace, breast milk, formula or a varied diet.
