GONADOPIN 75IU Injection

Recombinant human follitropin is a laboratory-made form of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), a natural hormone that controls fertility.

In adult women it is used to:

• help release an egg in women who do not ovulate and have not responded to clomiphene
• help release an egg, together with LH, in women whose bodies make very little FSH and LH
• develop several eggs for assisted conception such as IVF

In adult men it is used with hCG to help produce sperm when infertility is caused by low levels of certain hormones.

Use it exactly as your fertility doctor tells you. Your dose and schedule depend on your treatment and are adjusted using blood tests and ultrasound scans.

• It is injected just under the skin. The first injection is given under medical supervision, and a doctor or nurse will show you how to inject yourself.
• Follow the preparation instructions in the leaflet carefully. Use the medicine straight after mixing, and do not use it if the liquid is cloudy or has particles.
• If you forget a dose, do not take a double dose. Contact your doctor as soon as you notice.

Common side effects include:

• pain, redness, bruising or swelling where you inject
• headache
• in women: ovarian cysts, tummy pain, bloating, cramps, feeling sick, vomiting or diarrhoea
• in men: swollen veins near the testicles, breast development, acne or weight gain

Contact your doctor straight away if you have:

• lower tummy pain with feeling or being sick, sudden weight gain, passing less urine or difficulty breathing (possible ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, OHSS)
• chest pain, breathlessness, or signs of a stroke or heart attack (blood clots)
• rash, hives, swelling of the face or difficulty breathing (allergic reaction)

Do not use it if you:

• are allergic to FSH or any ingredient
• have a tumour of the pituitary gland or hypothalamus
• are a woman with enlarged ovaries or unexplained ovarian cysts, unexplained vaginal bleeding, cancer of the ovary, womb or breast, or early menopause
• are a man with permanently damaged testicles

Tell your doctor if you or your family have porphyria, or a history of blood clots, heart attack or stroke, or if you use other fertility medicines.

Store as the pack directs and keep out of the sight and reach of children. The powder vials are usually kept at or below 25°C in the original package to protect from light; use immediately after mixing.

Multiple pregnancy: treatment raises the chance of twins or more, which carries extra risks for mother and babies.

Miscarriage: the risk is higher than average with fertility treatment.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: do not use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Age: not for anyone under 18.

Driving: it is not expected to affect driving.
