Flomax 0.4mg Capsules

Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker. It relaxes the muscles in the prostate and the neck of the bladder, so urine can flow more easily. It is used to relieve urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia), such as a weak flow, difficulty starting, and needing to go often or urgently.

It is also sometimes used to help kidney stones pass. It eases symptoms but does not shrink the prostate.

Take tamsulosin exactly as your doctor tells you, usually once a day at about the same time.

• Capsules are usually taken about 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Follow the leaflet for your product.
• Swallow it whole; do not open, crush or chew it.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless your next dose is nearly due. Never take two doses together.
• If you have stopped for several days, ask your doctor before starting again.
• Get up slowly from sitting or lying down, especially when you first start.

Common side effects include:

• dizziness, especially when standing up
• less or no fluid when ejaculating
• runny or blocked nose
• sleepiness, weakness, back pain or diarrhoea
• blurred vision

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• a painful erection lasting several hours
• fainting
• a rash, hives or itching with swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
• difficulty breathing

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have, or have had, prostate cancer
• have cataracts or are planning eye surgery
• have liver or kidney disease
• take cimetidine or any other medicines, herbal products or supplements
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Keep it in its original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture, and out of the reach of children.

Eye surgery: tell your eye surgeon that you take, or have taken, tamsulosin before cataract or glaucoma surgery.

Dizziness and fainting: these are most likely at the start of treatment. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
