Cyclodex Tablets 20mg Tablets

Piroxicam beta-cyclodextrin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the short-term relief of mild to moderately severe pain. It reduces the chemicals in the body that cause pain and swelling.

The piroxicam is joined to a sugar-like carrier called beta-cyclodextrin. This makes the piroxicam dissolve more easily, so it is absorbed faster than plain piroxicam. It eases symptoms only while you take it and does not cure the cause of the pain.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at the lowest dose for the shortest time possible.

• Take it straight after a meal, or with food or milk, to reduce stomach upset.
• It is meant for short courses only. Do not take more, more often or for longer than prescribed.
• If you miss a dose and remember within about 8 hours, take it, then carry on as normal. Never take a double dose.
• Do not take aspirin or other NSAID painkillers (such as ibuprofen or diclofenac) at the same time unless your doctor tells you to.

Common side effects include:

• indigestion, feeling sick, stomach pain or diarrhoea
• headache, dizziness or drowsiness
• swelling of the feet or ankles
• skin that burns more easily in the sun

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• black, tarry or bloody stools, or vomit with blood
• shortness of breath, wheezing or chest tightness
• a skin rash, hives, blisters or swelling, or fever and flu-like symptoms with a rash
• blurred vision or other changes in sight
• dark, red or brown urine, or a change in how much you pass
• yellow skin or eyes

Do not take it if you are allergic to aspirin or any NSAID, or if you have an active stomach ulcer or bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, severe heart failure, severe liver or kidney disease, a bleeding disorder or high potassium. It is not for people under 18.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist first if you:

• have had a heart attack, angina, stroke or mini-stroke, or have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or you smoke
• have had a stomach ulcer or bleeding before
• have asthma, nasal polyps or kidney problems
• take blood thinners (such as warfarin or clopidogrel), steroids, SSRI antidepressants, blood pressure medicines, water tablets, lithium or methotrexate

Store at room temperature (15–30°C), protected from light, and keep out of the reach of children.

Heart and stomach risks: like other NSAIDs, it can raise the risk of heart attack, stroke and serious stomach bleeding, which can happen without warning. The risk is higher in older people.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It may also reduce fertility, so it is not advised if you are trying to get pregnant.

Alcohol: avoid alcohol, as it makes stomach problems more likely.

Driving: do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy, dizzy or light-headed.
