Celebrex 200mg Capsules

Celecoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the COX-2 inhibitor type. It lowers the body's production of substances that cause pain and swelling.

It is used to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, and to treat painful periods and short-term pain, for example after an injury, surgery or dental work.

Take celecoxib exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at about the same time each day.

• Lower doses can be taken with or without food; higher doses should be taken with food. Ask your pharmacist which applies to you.
• If you cannot swallow the capsule, ask your pharmacist whether it can be opened and mixed with a spoonful of apple sauce.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due. Never take a double dose.
• Do not take other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, unless your doctor says so.

Common side effects include:

• Wind or bloating, constipation
• Sore throat or cold-like symptoms
• Dizziness
• Changes in taste

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• Chest pain, weakness on one side of the body or slurred speech
• Black or bloody stools, or vomiting blood or what looks like coffee grounds
• Stomach pain or heartburn that does not go away
• Shortness of breath, sudden weight gain or swelling of the face, legs or feet
• Yellow skin or eyes, rash, blisters or hives
• Changes in how much you pass urine

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• Are allergic to celecoxib, aspirin, other NSAIDs or sulfa medicines
• Have heart disease, have had a heart attack or stroke, or are about to have heart bypass surgery
• Have had a stomach ulcer or bleeding, or have a bleeding problem
• Have asthma, nasal polyps, heart failure, high blood pressure, or kidney or liver disease
• Take blood thinners, steroids or SSRI/SNRI antidepressants
• Are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Keep in the original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

NSAIDs such as celecoxib can raise the risk of heart attack, stroke, and stomach or bowel bleeding, which can happen without warning. The risk is higher with long-term use, older age and heavy drinking. Do not take it from about 20 weeks of pregnancy unless your doctor tells you to. Your blood pressure may need regular checks.
