Wascorel -S 75/75mg Tablets

Clopidogrel and aspirin are two antiplatelet medicines in one tablet. They stop blood platelets from sticking together and forming clots in the arteries.

• Clopidogrel blocks a chemical signal that switches platelets on.
• Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) reduces another substance that makes platelets clump.

Together they work better than either alone. The combination is used by adults who have had unstable angina or a heart attack, often after a stent has been placed, and who already take both medicines. It helps lower the risk of further heart attacks and strokes.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually once a day at the same time.

• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food.
• Keep taking it for as long as your doctor prescribes. Do not stop without talking to your doctor, as this can raise the risk of a heart attack or a clot in a stent.
• If you miss a dose and remember within 12 hours, take it straight away. If more than 12 hours have passed, skip it and take the next dose at the usual time. Never take a double dose.
• Do not take separate clopidogrel tablets while on this combination.

Bleeding is the most common side effect, such as bruising, nosebleeds or cuts that take longer to stop. Other common side effects include diarrhoea, tummy pain and indigestion or heartburn.

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• red or black stools, vomiting blood, or blood in your urine
• a sudden severe headache, confusion or weakness on one side
• fever with tiny red spots under the skin, extreme tiredness, confusion or yellow skin or eyes (a rare blood disorder called TTP)
• swelling of the mouth or face, a blistering rash or difficulty breathing
• a rash with fever and swollen glands
• ringing in the ears or hearing loss

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are allergic to aspirin or other NSAIDs, or have asthma with a runny nose and nasal polyps
• have a stomach ulcer, bleeding in the brain or a bleeding disorder
• have liver or kidney disease, gout or G6PD deficiency
• have had a recent injury, surgery or stroke, or have surgery or dental work planned
• drink alcohol
• take blood thinners, other NSAIDs, SSRI antidepressants, omeprazole or esomeprazole, methotrexate, fluconazole, some HIV or epilepsy medicines

Store below 25°C, and keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Bleeding: this medicine makes you bleed more easily. Tell any doctor or dentist that you take it before treatment.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: do not take it in the last 3 months of pregnancy, and it is best avoided earlier in pregnancy. Do not breastfeed while taking it.

Children: not for anyone under 18. Aspirin is linked to Reye's syndrome in young people with viral infections.
